📤 Exporting and Uploading the SAF-T File in Portugal

The SAF-T PT is an export file that collects all tax-relevant documents issued by the company. Its purpose is to communicate this information to the Autoridade Tributária (AT).

In Avantio, the communication of these documents is done through the monthly export of the SAF-T file. Subsequently, this file must be uploaded to the AT account via the Portal das Finanças.

📅 Legal Obligation

  • The SAF-T file must be communicated to the AT by the 5th of each month.

  • You can generate the file for both the management company and the owners.

    • In the latter case, you must send the file to the owner so they can upload it to their own Finanças account.

⚙️ Steps in Avantio to Generate the SAF-T File

  1. Go to Accounting → Export data → E-fatura Portugal → New export.

  2. Fill in the fields:

    • Company name: select your company or the corresponding owner.

    • Type of export:

      • Monthly (default).

      • Annual.

      • Custom dates (indicate start and end date).

    • Period to export: month, year, or date range as chosen.

  3. Once exported, the file will be saved in Accounting → Export data → Exported data.

    There you can:

    • Download the file.

    • Check details (year, month, company name, number of records, etc.).

    • Delete it if necessary.

    ✅ Downloaded files appear with a ✔️
❌ Files pending download appear with an X.

🌐 Uploading the File to the Portal das Finanças

  1. Log in to your private area with your credentials.

  2. Go to the Merchant area and select the option “Enviar Ficheiro SAF-T PT” (below the VAT settled graph).

  3. Fill in the requested data (year and month of the export).

  4. Click Open to locate the file on your computer.

  5. Finally, click Submit to complete the process.

✅ With these steps, your company will meet the tax communication obligation in Portugal easily and within the legal deadline.
